Introducing Gale Mossman, New GTA/905 Healthcare Alliance Chair

As the new chair of the GTA/905 Healthcare Alliance, Gale Mossman heads up an organization representing eleven hospital corporations from the fastest growing and fastest aging regions in the province. The Alliance works to achieve equitable funding and provide healthcare services closer to home for its 2.5 million residents in Durham, Halton, Peel, York and surrounding areas. Mossman who succeeds Sandra Farlery, following her two-year term as chair, is ready to "build on all that has been accomplished by the Alliance and previous chairs for the past four years."

Having served on hospital boards that deal with the pressures of high population growth, Mossman has a personal, first-hand understanding of the ongoing issues that define hospitals in the GTA/905. "We need to put forward a strong voice, address issues common to us and work on programs collaboratively," says Mossman.

"We also need to ensure that funding is responsive to our growing populations. Our goal is to continue working with the government to support reform and rebuilding efforts in the healthcare industry to enable our patients to access services closer to home," she says.

A driving force in the Ajax community, Gale has been a partner with the Val Marshal American Express Travel Agency for 13 years while working with numerous community organizations. Most recently she was Chair of the Rouge Valley Health System and prior to that served on the board and as chair of the Ajax and Pickering Hospital. Her community involvement also includes being a campaign chair and board member with the Ajax and Pickering United Way and a founding member and past chair of the Community Foundation of Durham Region, a group that dispenses funds to local charitable organizations.

Mossman is the third person to hold the position of chair with the Alliance since its creation in 1996.

GTA/905 Healthcare Alliance hospitals include: Halton Healthcare Services, Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, Lakeridge Health Corporation, Markham Stouffville Hospital, Rouge Valley Health System, The Credit Valley Hospital, Trillium Health Centre, Whitby Mental Health Centre, William Osler Health Centre, York Central Hospital, York County Hospital.
