Bringing Healthcare Closer to Home
Through Fair Funding

The Growing Communities Healthcare Alliance recognizes the fiscal realities faced by the government in delivering health care in the province and we are committed to working in partnership with the province to address the unprecedented growth occurring in the four regions of Durham, Halton, Peel and York and Dufferin County and communities of Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph, Cambridge, West Ottawa, Fergus and Wellington. The relentless increase in service demand from a growing population is putting tremendous pressure on hospitals in high growth regions. Alliance hospitals are hopeful that the third party review process currently underway may help alleviate some of their funding and health service pressures.

Although the government has allocated funding resources to high growth hospitals over the years, no real funding gains have been made, given the rate of population growth. In the last five years, per capita funding has increased by only 1%. And each year, the region grows by 100,000 people, roughly the size of the city of Kingston. Faced with continuous growth pressures, Alliance hospitals have worked to secure appropriate growth funding to meet the health care needs of their communities.

The following graphs and statistical information help to tell the Alliance story and illustrates the pressures faced by our hospitals.
